The School of Health Sciences will begin offering two online graduate programs for practicing occupational therapists in the Fall 2008 semester.
Through Quinnipiac University Online, occupational therapists can pursue a post-professional master of science degree in occupational therapy or a certificate of advanced graduate study.
The 32-credit post-professional master's degree is geared toward licensed practitioners who have a bachelor's degree in occupational therapy and want to merge their experience with advanced professional knowledge of emerging research, leadership, critical thinking and entrepreneurial concepts of occupational therapy.
"The online program offers an opportunity for practicing occupational therapists to continue their education without interrupting their careers," said Kimberly Hartmann, chairwoman of the occupational therapy program.
The master's degree can be completed online in five semesters with some on-campus requirements tailored for working professionals. "The curriculum, faculty and online learning environment enable students to attain advanced skills that are in high demand today and will continue to be valued in the future," Hartmann said.
Courses run in seven-week modules during the Fall and Spring semesters. During the two Summer semesters, courses run in seven- and five-week modules.
Licensed occupational therapists who have an entry-level master's degree in occupational therapy may decide to pursue the 15-credit online certificate of advanced graduate study in occupational therapy. This is for therapists who want to obtain advanced skills and build on their current experience while refining their clinical skills.
Quinnipiac faculty members teach the online courses. They are offered via the Internet, so students can communicate with classmates and professors anytime from anywhere there is an Internet connection. Students learn from reading assignments, online presentations designed by professors and lively discussions with classmates where everyone shares comments about issues. Students take exams and submit written assignments online.
