HDTV Studio
The University's completely digital high-definition television (HDTV) studio, the latest in broadcast technology, provides students with a thoroughly professional environment for creating a wide range of quality television programming.
The 1,200-square-foot studio features:
- Three Sony HDC-910 digital studio cameras
- Sony MVS8000A production switcher with multiple DME channels
- Sony DMX R100 digital audio console
- Chryon Duet for graphics
- Grass Valley Group Profile video server
- Sony HDCAM studio VTR
- 16-foot-high lighting grid
- Full complement of Mole-Richardson studio lighting
- Computer-controlled lighting board
Screening Classroom
The classroom is equipped for screening DVDs, DV (digital video) tape and computer output. The classroom features superb five-channel surround-sound audio, a high-end video projection system and 26 theater-style seats.
News Technology Center
Modeled after a working newsroom, the center supports courses in broadcast, print and interactive journalism. Students get the latest news at their computers via the Associated Press newswire service and the popular ENPS newsroom automation software application, used by many broadcasters including CBS News and ESPN. The News Tech Center provides cable television service, as well as video projection and color and monochrome laser printers. Audio playback capability and flatbed scanners also are available.
Multimedia Lab
The lab features high-performance PCs, peripherals and software for students learning to create interactive multimedia and Web design projects. Two large wall-mounted plasma screens allow for video and computer display. Here students work with multimedia and imaging applications such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, Dreamweaver and other industry-standard software.
Audio Production Studio
The center's digital audio production studio is used by media production and broadcast journalism students to create radio programs, public service announcements, news and documentary programs, live radio dramas, commercials, soundtracks for films and videos and other audio projects. The studio offers a wide array of professional-level tools and components, including the powerful Pro Tools HD digital audio workstation, which is used by recording industry and postproduction professionals worldwide.
Media Project Bays
Students work alone or in small teams with private project bays, editing video with Apple Final Cut Studio or recording and editing audio with Digidesign's Pro Tools LE.
Master Edit Room
The highest quality high-definition content can be edited on our Macintosh-based Final Cut Studio HD system. The room features high-capacity (3.5 TB) media storage, dual flat-panel computer monitors, a high-definition CRT monitor and a large plasma screen for viewing program output.
Video Editing Lab
This lab is used to train students in current post-production techniques, using Apple's Final Cut Studio suite of applications and other powerful tools such as Adobe Photoshop and After Effects. Hardware and software are updated regularly to give students the benefits of the most powerful and flexible tools available. The lab also features a high-definition video projection system and Blu-Ray/HD DVD players for screening HD content.
Equipment Loan Room
We provide a full complement of remote audio and video production gear for students enrolled in media production courses. They may borrow camcorders, tripods, lighting kits, microphones, audio recorders and accessories during the academic semester for use in course projects. Students shoot digital video in the field and edit digitally. Students in advanced production courses have access to professional-level 3 CCD DV camcorders, digital audio recorders and all the gear necessary to produce broadcast-quality audio and video in the field.
