Rick Hirsch, an adjunct faculty member in the School of Business, is the chapter's adviser. The team will head to Philadelphia May 10-12 for the SIFE National Exposition.
The Quinnipiac team was also named a finalist in two of SIFE's topic competitions, Entrepreneurship and Clorox Market Economics. Quinnipiac will compete against teams from Syracuse University, Elmira College and Monroe College for the economics award.
The Quinnipiac students will compete against Centenary College, Elmira College, Monroe College, Robert Wesleyan College and St. Bonaventure University for the entrepreneurship award. The topic competitions winners will be announced at the national exposition.
During the regional competition, the Quinnipiac contingent made a presentation about Café Cameroon, the highly successful business the chapter founded in 2008 to help the people of Bawa, a village in Cameroon, Africa, to develop a market for their gourmet coffee beans. All proceeds from Café Cameroon are being used to help the people of Bawa to build a health care facility.
The students' presentation was judged by a panel of business leaders. The teams were evaluated based on their ability to create economic opportunities for others. The event was one of 16 SIFE USA Regional Competitions held across the United States in March and April.
