This one-week program delivers a 360-degree understanding of how computer and digital information works. Upon completion, you will be equipped with the knowledge to take the Microsoft Office Specialist Certification.

Overview

Data analysis as a skill and the Microsoft Excel tool are important in just about every field and a technical skill desired by most employers. Designed for both beginner to intermediate users, this hands-on course teaches you how to use Excel to interpret and present all forms of data. Through fun individual and team-based projects, you will become familiar with using formulas, functions, data validation, creating tables, pivot tables, forms and more.

This course is led by a former QU faculty and current information Services 20-year senior staff member Matthew Romeo who is passionate about providing youth with a fun data-driven experience.

This course provides:
  • A 360-degree understanding of how to input, proof and manipulate data within Excel and most of the features it provides
  • Helpful preparation to potentially pursue a Microsoft Office Specialist Certification (not included within this program)
  • A certificate of completion with a Quinnipiac instructor written review and assessment

Course Costs

The 2021 program tuition fee of $600 covers:
  • 1 full week (5 days) of faculty designed and facilitated Excel program instruction with teaching assistant staff available throughout.
  • Daily live instruction, and asynchronous multimedia learning instruction
  • A Quinnipiac T-Shirt

Session 1: July 5 - July 9 (5 Days)
Session 2: July 19 – July 23 (5 Days)
Session 3: August 2 – August 6 (5 Days)

Typical Daily Schedule:

Time Activity Detail
9 a.m. Morning program meeting and check-in This meeting provides a chance to review the day ahead as well as check in with everyone before the program begins
10 a.m. Daily live online class via Zoom with team breakout sessions Faculty will discuss and review the key topic for the day, often already presented to students the night before via the online self-paced class and multimedia.
Noon Online social lunch break Get to know your classmates, or those from other online programs, while playing fun online games
1 p.m. Independent and team challenge time This is a chance to put your Excel skills to the test in both independent and group challenges
3 p.m. Live class challenge review A chance to review the Excel challenge and build on your learning as well as prepare you for the next day
4 p.m. Scheduled office hours for assistance from instructor and TAs over Zoom Your time to work independently or jump on Zoom to get help with any difficult concepts, or focus on areas where you want to really push ahead.
After Hours Independent learning online The program is flexible to each student’s schedule and goals, and includes the option to watch, read and discuss different aspects of that day’s lesson online at a time that works best for you. Students who perform well in the program have the chance to take and pass industry credentials both through ISECOM & Quinnipiac

A list of equipment or materials needed to participate:

Students will need reliable access to a laptop computer, Wi-Fi and a full version of Microsoft Excel . A temporary license and access to Microsoft Excel is available upon special request.
