|(3 cr.) This course satisfies all first-year writing
requirements. It introduces students to
academic discourse--the literate practices,
critical strategies and vigorous discussion that
support knowledge-making at the university.
Students engage in the reciprocal processes of
rigorous reading and draft writing, conducting
research and writing analytical-critical
responses and/or arguments. Readings include
expository essays, plus several longer works of
fiction or drama or a selection of poems, which
serve to unify the course content and allow
students to explore their interests.
Prerequisite: a superior score of (6) on the
English placement exam.
