Teaching Methods

Quinnipiac's occupational therapy department strives to engage the student in learning activities that will promote the acquisition of information, independent use of scholarly materials, application of information to hands-on experiences in the labs and application of all the knowledge to real-life situations in service learning and fieldwork.

To meet this goal, we use the following teaching methodologies:

  • Interactive classroom lectures
  • Distance learning technologies
  • Immersive intra- and inter-professional service-learning and fieldwork experiences
  • Application of knowledge and practical skills with actual or simulated patients/clients
  • Synthesis of information through case-based, project-based and problem-based learning
  • Mentorship and the Capstone experience

The ultimate teaching goal is to provide student-centered educational experiences in multiple settings, while the ultimate learning goal for students is to enhance critical thinking and practical skills necessary for entry-level practice in occupational therapy.
