University Curriculum and Seminars
Quinnipiac's liberal arts philosophy is embodied by our University curriculum: academic offerings in disciplines ranging from writing to biology to history.
The requirements of the University Curriculum assure that all students receive a broad education that exposes them to different perspectives and ways of knowing, producing lifelong learners who can, upon graduation, become leaders in their professions, in the communities where they live, and in their role as informed citizens.
The goal of the First-year Seminar is to introduce Quinnipiac students to inquiry, a particular mode of thinking that is the heart of their education and preparation for all aspects of life after college. The First-year Seminar will help students investigate complex, relevant problems that defy easy and definitive answers. The First-year Seminar will equip students with the skills and knowledge to begin a "personal quest" and to reap the benefits of a Quinnipiac University education.
To get ready for their course work at Quinnipiac, students practice the fundamentals of good writing in two composition classes, equaling 6 credits.
All Quinnipiac students round out their liberal arts studies with at least one 3-credit math course.
Most of the general-education requirements fall under this category. Students balance their major studies with 28 hours of foundational courses in the sciences, social sciences, humanities and fine arts.
Integrative Capstone Experience
Towards the end of their coursework, Quinnipiac students complete an Integrative Capstone Experience in which they reflect on their "personal quest" and the connections between their general education, their co-curricular activities, and specialized education in their majors, demonstrating integrative and intentional learning. The Integrative Capstone Experience is the culmination of the general education experience at Quinnipiac.
