Come learn the basics of traditional Māori poi balls! Poi balls were used by the Māori, the Indigenous people of New Zealand, as both weapons and tools to improve dexterity. Today, different types of poi balls are used in beautiful and complex cultural dances. Come try your hand at long poi in celebration of Asian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month! Participants will each receive their own pair of poi balls for the lesson and are encouraged to tie back long hair and avoid baggy clothing. Pre registration required.
