What do I prepare?

Students should prepare a 90 second monologue that shows how much you love the words. Lots of “chewy”, “dense” language that you have a blast speaking. Whatever that means to you!

A monologue will be provided to students who do not have something prepared in advance.

Also, if you have any musical talent (no matter how great or small) please share it! Instruments encouraged!

Are there other opportunities beyond acting in this show?

YES! Please contact Rosalie.Bochansky@qu.edu & Abigail.Copeland@qu.edu to learn more about run-crew and other backstage opportunities, production positions, and stage management.

What should I expect from participating in this show?

Here's a note from the director that you may find helpful!

THREE SISTERS is one of Anton Chekhov’s “four major plays”, and widely considered to be one of the most important pieces in modern theater.

The story involves a tight-knit group of friends and family centered around the Prozorov Sisters, three incredible young women who feel trapped in their small lives in a small town, and dream of returning “home”: their beloved Moscow.

Chekhov’s work has always been very important to me (we share a birthday!) and this new translation of Three Sisters, from the original Russian, is my own. It focuses on the simplicity, passion, and immediacy of Chekhov’s writing and thrives on the strength and the play of the ensemble.

We’ll dive into an intense rehearsal process of deep character/text analysis and build a real “world” of the play where actors then feel challenged yet safe, so they can dig deep and really “bring themselves” to the work in new ways.

And THAT’S where it will shine-- when we watch these characters and their laughs, tears, songs, insults, booze, feasts, heartbreaks, public humiliations, private triumphs, jealousies, old friendships, and new loves-- all while the world around them changes too quickly for their own good. (Sound familiar!?)
