Lux Burgos Lopez speaks at a podium

Join us for an evening lecture by Luz Burgos-Lopez to highlight the intersections of the Latinx and LGBTQ+ community. Luz will discuss the challenges of coming out, the history of the term Latinx, and how we can better support queer Latinx students in higher education.

Luz will unpack the role of white supremacy, homophobia, transphobia, and language; and provide the Quinnipiac community with recommendations and practices to better support and show up for Queer Latinx.

Luz is a Queer white Puerto Rican who is passionate about racial justice and equity within BIPOC communities. Luz has been working in higher education for 10+ years with particular focus on centering the needs and experiences of historically marginalized communities. Luz has provided various workshops and professional development opportunities to faculty, administrators, and students addressing issues of identity, equity, and the role of anti-Blackness, whiteness, white supremacy in higher education.

Luz currently is a doctoral student in the Learning, Leadership, and Education Policy program at the University of Connecticut. Luz earned her Masters in Counseling Education from Central Connecticut State University and a Bachelor of Arts in African American Studies from Wesleyan University.
