At this event, we hope to address the pervasive issue of poverty and its effects on public health in New Haven and our broader community. This event will take place as a dynamic panel discussion, as we have invited a lawyer as well as a frontline street health provider in New Haven, affiliated with Bobcat Clinic (Phil Costello, N.P.). Members of the audience can ask the panel questions about poverty and its effects on public health in the New Haven area and in general. Specifically, we aim to discuss the difficulty of accessing basic needs in the community (food, healthcare, education), the widespread shortage of affordable housing, education disparities amongst the prevalence of prestigious universities in the area, reforming the criminal justice system, and the criminalization of poverty.
