Karen Hurd is a certified registered nurse anesthestist with 25 years of experience delivering comprehensive anesthetic services to patients undergoing procedures across all surgical subspecialties including cardiothoracic, vascular, neurologic, spine, general and urologic surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, orthopedic, ENT, endoscopic, and robotic procedures. In 2018, Karen completed her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from Qiunnipiac University and accepted a full time faculty position in the School of Nursing as a Clinical Assistant Professor and Assistant Director of the Nurse Anesthesia Program. Dr Hurd maintains clinical practice in local community hospitals in the state of CT. and serves as a clinical preceptor to students.
Dr Hurd is a member of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA), the CT Association of Nurse Anesthetists (CTANA), and the New England Assembly of School Faculty (NEASF). Dr Hurd is currently serving a 2 year appointment to the Board of Directors of the NEASF in the role of secretary. Areas of special interest include advocacy for the unrestricted practice of advanced practice providers, development of regional anesthesia education and training with competency upon entry to professional practice, and multimodal opioid sparing anesthesia techniques to address the opioid crisis.
