Political science professor writes Washington Post op-ed
|Fodei J. Batty|
Fodei Batty, an assistant professor of political science, wrote the op-ed, "How to understand the complicated history of 'Go back to Africa,'" which was published on April 26 by the Washington Post.
The phrase, "Go back to Africa," was in the news recently when a black Southern Illinois University at Carbondale student complained that student supporters of Donald Trump used a racial slur and said black students should "go back to Africa" at a recent campus forum.
Batty said, "The phrase "Go back to Africa" seems like nothing but an insult. It doesn't have to be that way, as demonstrated by the historical links between black Americans and the African continent."
