At Quinnipiac, our mission is to prepare educators who are leaders both inside and out of the classroom. Our CAEP-accredited School of Education offers affordable pathways for students to earn their initial teaching certification through an immersive, hands-on curriculum in just over one year.

Pursue initial teaching certification

Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT)
  • For recent graduates interested in pursuing a career in education

  • Full time pathways to licensure that may be completed in just over one year (Elementary and Secondary) with reduced costs per credit to save you time and money.*

  • Placements in CT schools with a tuition-paid internship that may cover up to 50% of the program costs

  • Late afternoon and evening scheduling allows you to complete coursework around student teaching or other full time roles.

  • Students who have been hired before their final semester will benefit from for-credit induction support, while students who are still looking for a job will continue a student-teaching experience.*

  • Our graduates leave QU with a master's, full certification and teaching licensure, enabling them to get hired before they graduate.

For those who have a bachelor's degree and want to start a career as an elementary school teacher, the MAT in Elementary Education gives you the skills and confidence you need to make a difference in the lives of children. You’ll build the hands-on experience needed to foster a diverse classroom that supports the needs of developing minds.

MAT in Secondary Education

Designed for those with a bachelor's degree in biology, English, history or mathematics, the MAT in Secondary Education allows you to earn your master's degree and teaching certification in just over one year. During your studies, you'll take graduate content courses to deepen your subject expertise, as well as various courses in teaching and learning, classroom management and adolescent development.

MAT in Special Education

The MAT in Special Education is designed for those with a bachelor's degree and prepares future educators for success in many roles within the field of special education. Throughout the program, graduates will master how to develop and implement individualized education programs and 504 plans, conduct functional behavioral assessments and design behavioral intervention programs.
