QUWAC celebrates 10th anniversary
April 8, 2011 - Sally Mitchell, coordinator of thinking writing at Queen Mary, University of London, delivered the lecture, "Working with the Disciplines: Reflections on a Year of Collaboration with the Politics Department," as part of Writing Across the Curriculum's 10th anniversary celebration on April 7, 2011. Mitchell is visiting Quinnipiac as part of a Galpin International Exchange Grant.
Mitchell spoke about her work consulting with multidisciplinary faculty who want to help students write and think better. As she explained, universities in the U.K. don't have first-year writing programs; students begin major disciplinary studies in their first year. Thus, Thinking Writing fills an important need among faculty and students alike. In her talk, she focused on strategies for helping faculty develop necessary critical thinking and writing skills among students.
