Sen. Blumenthal to deliver School of Law Commencement address

Blumenthal will deliver the law school commencement address
Feb. 27, 2014 - U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal will address students and receive an honorary degree at the School of Law Commencement ceremony at Quinnipiac University at 10 a.m. on Sunday, May 11.

Before being elected to the U.S. Senate, Blumenthal served an unprecedented five terms as Connecticut's attorney general where he was a key player in the national fight against Big Tobacco. Among his achievements is his involvement in bringing an end to deceptive marketing aimed at children, a victory that significantly lowered youth smoking rates and compelled a multi-billion dollar settlement for Connecticut taxpayers.

On Saturday, May 10, Quinnipiac will hold separate Commencement ceremonies in the TD Bank Sports Center for its graduate students. Guy Adami, managing director of, will receive an honorary degree and address the graduates at the 10 a.m. ceremony for the College of Arts and Sciences, School of Business, School of Communications and School of Education. Linda Schwartz, the Connecticut commissioner of veterans affairs, who has devoted her nursing practice to healing the wounds of war and improving the lives of America's 24 million veterans and advocating for them on numerous occasions in testimony to both Houses of Congress, the National Academy of Science, the Environmental Protection Agency and Department of State, will receive an honorary degree and address the graduates at the 3 p.m. ceremony for the School of Health Sciences and School of Nursing.

On Sunday, May 18, Steve Forbes, chairman and editor-in-chief of Forbes Media, will address the School of Business and School of Communications at 9:30 a.m.; John Feal, founder of the FealGood Foundation, will address the School of Health Sciences and School of Nursing at 2 p.m.; and Andrew Jenks, an award-winning filmmaker, will address the College of Arts and Sciences at 6 p.m. All ceremonies will be on the academic quadrangle on the Mount Carmel Campus, weather-permitting.

Noel Kilkenny, Consul General of Ireland in New York, and his wife, Hanora, will also receive honorary degrees at the College of Arts and Sciences Commencement ceremony.

Quinnipiac will sponsor a Commencement Fair on the Mount Carmel Campus on Monday, April 14 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Tuesday, April 15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Piazza of the Carl Hansen Student Center. Another date will be held on the North Haven Campus on Wednesday, April 16 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Representatives from all offices involved in Commencement will distribute caps and gowns and answer questions.
