March 21, 2024 Update

Parents and Families

This journey is for you, too. Whether you live around the corner or in a remote corner of the globe, you are part of the Bobcat family.

We know the decision to send your child to study at Quinnipiac is a huge commitment from you, and our goal is to be as transparent as possible with the need-to-know information you're looking for.

Check back often for up-to-date news, events and contact information for resources across campus.

March 21, 2024 families update

Welcome back from spring break! We hope you enjoyed (for many of you) having your student back, unless they traveled somewhere exotic, maybe even with the travel-abroad program. As we head into the final stretch of the semester, there is a lot going on around campus.

The 1929 fund is holding a fundraiser asking seniors to donate at least $19.29 and in turn they will receive a 1929 graduation cord. The group has raised more than $200,000 in scholarships for students entering their first year at Quinnipiac. Last year, there were six lucky recipients. Please tell your student to consider donating! Donate to the 1929 Fund

The GAME Forum, in its 13th year, is March 21-22, and will be held at the Sheraton New York Times Square Hotel, which attracts a diverse audience of over 1,300 business-savvy participants from more than 120 universities. The event features a comprehensive lineup of 30 panels, which includes more than 100 speakers representing 77 different companies. I strongly encourage your first- or second-year business students to take the free bus offered by Quinnipiac. For more information, please visit the GAME Forum website

Next week is the QTHON Week of Hope, which leads up to the annual event on March 23, where students participate in an eight-hour dance-a-thon to raise money for children in need, supported by current students, alumni, faculty, and staff alike. Last year, students raised more than $100,000, and more than $1 million over the past decade. I hope your Bobcat stops by the RecWell Center to support such a great event.

Well over 100 students applied for the mentor position in the new Grove residence hall and we selected those who were qualified. It will be an exciting opening for our newest residential facility in August of this upcoming summer.

Other notable mentions: QU men’s ice hockey team is heading to Lake Placid for the ECAC finals, while other spring sports are in full swing. The Critical Conversation Series is still ongoing with four more talks scheduled this semester, an upcoming blood drive is being held on campus, cooking class in the demo kitchen, and Earth Week is around the corner, April 22-26.

With some key Bobcats graduating, we are looking for students to take over management roles for On the Rocks Pub; ask your student if they are interested and have them reach out to me. It is a fantastic paid leadership opportunity. Lastly, room selection is quickly approaching for underclass students, please remind your students that deposit payments are due to participate in selecting their rooms for next year.

As always, should you have any questions or need guidance on assisting your student with an issue, please feel free to contact us at QUParents@qu.edu

Sincerely,

Tom Ellett
Chief Experience Officer

There’s so much going on!

Students transitioning to graduate school at Quinnipiac

Accelerated dual-degree and dual-degree students

Congratulations! Your student has almost completed their undergraduate education here at Quinnipiac. We have been meeting with students to assist them in planning for and making the transition to their graduate program in the summer/fall.

In the fall semester, Graduate Admissions held the initial Transition to Graduate School meeting with students. Katie Ludovico, senior associate director of graduate admissions, explained the admissions process to students and shared the “Transition to Grad School” form, which serves as their application to graduate school at Quinnipiac.

As we kicked off the spring semester, we have begun meeting with students to complete the Transition to Graduate School meetings. These meetings have been scheduled in collaboration with their program directors and/or schools and our Graduate Financial Aid and Graduate Student Affairs team.

During this second meeting, the students learn about graduate services, graduate engagement opportunities and graduate housing from Graduate Student Affairs. Graduate Financial Aid shares in-depth information on how to finance their graduate education including the costs, timelines and paperwork. All students who attend this session can access the handouts on Blackboard under the Organization section they have been invited to join. This allows them to easily share that information with you. These situations were conducted by Heather Hamilton, director of graduate financial aid, and Gina Frank, dean of graduate student affairs.

In addition, we are excited to share that each student who will be joining our graduate community will receive an academic cord to designate them as a dual degree student and will be entering our graduate programs as life-long learners.

The dates of the upcoming meetings:

  • Thursday, February 15: MSBA/MSA

  • Monday, February 19: MCB

  • Monday, February 19: MAT

  • Wednesday, February 21: MBA

  • Thursday, February 22: MSW

  • Monday, February 26: MAT

  • Tuesday, February 27: AMIL

  • Thursday, February 29: MAT

  • Monday, March 4: Computer science and cybersecurity

National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI) is a club on campus and an amazing resource for parents. If you suspect that your child may be struggling mentally or emotionally, remember the five Ts: Tell, Test, Teach, Talk, Take Action.

  1. Tell your child they can come to you with any problem

  2. Test their academic health by checking their end of semester grades

  3. Teach them how to recognize depression and anxiety

  4. Talk with them more often or visit if they are in distress

  5. Take action if your student is experiencing high-risk mental health concerns

Housing and Residential Life Updates

The Office of Housing is excited to announce the Sophomore and Junior Housing Selection Processes for the 2024-2025 academic year. Your student can participate by logging in to MyHousing to sign the housing contract and pay the housing reservation fee.

As a reminder, undergraduate students are required to live in Quinnipiac housing for their first three years.

Housing contracts are due on March 22, and every student who completes a contract will receive a housing selection number and a date/time when they can select a space either individually or as a member of a roommate group. The Office of Housing is offering students the opportunity to form mixed-gender groups and participate in a Gender-Inclusive Housing Selection process that will take place on April 3 and April 8.

Junior Housing Selection: April 3-4

Junior housing options include Crescent, Westview, Townhouses and Whitney Village.

Sophomore Housing Selection: April 9-10

Sophomore housing options include The Hill, The Village, Sahlin, Bakke, Founders, Larson, Perlroth, and Crescent.

We are also offering three living-learning communities that are open to sophomore students: Live Well, Multicultural and Unity.

Accommodations and questions

Students who may need to request medical accommodations for housing must do so by March 1 to be considered prior to the regular housing selection processes.

If you have any questions about the housing selection process, our staff are available in the Office of Housing in the Student Affairs Center behind the Bobcat Den. We are open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. We are also available as follows:

We are excited to have your student join our residential community on campus next year!

Meal Plans

As we are coming to the close of the academic year, students should be especially mindful of their meal points. All students are encouraged to check their meal points at least once a week by installing the Transact app on their mobile device or accessing the Transact website. Comparing the actual meal point balance to the week-by-week guidelines will help students to stay on track.

Too many points

  • Any leftover meal points will roll over from the fall to the spring semester. However, spring semester points will expire if they are not used at the end of the term. The last day to use meal points is on May 11.

  • Students with too many points have three options available to them:

    • Consider transferring points to another student

    • Participate in the Tap Out Hunger program and donate meal points to charity. This program opens in April.

    • Purchase food or beverages in bulk quantities directly from the dining hall to bring home. Dining services offers limited items based on cost value at the end of each year.  There is a sign-up process announced in April and pick ups take place in the final weeks of the semester. Students will receive a notification when the bulk purchasing opportunity begins.

What’s new from Religious Life

The Hereld House community continues to gather together every Shabbat — to discuss the current situation and support one another.

Pessach this year falls on Monday, April 22. Like all years past, students who chose not to share Seder at home with their families, will be invited to share seder at my home. Please discuss this with your child and if you have any questions, reach out to me at reena.judd@qu.edu or 203-582-8206 and I will reach back.

I send you all Much Shalom, Rabbi Reena Judd

What’s New from Financial Aid

Explore Outside Scholarship Options

Now is an excellent time for your student to apply for outside scholarships for academic year 2024-25, to minimize the out-of-pocket college expenses.

Here are some important tips and links:

  • To avoid your student’s email address from being overwhelmed, create a separate email address just for scholarship searches and check it regularly.

  • Start locally by researching community resources. Information may be available at your library or city or town hall.

  • Never provide a Social Security Number on a scholarship application.

  • Watch those deadlines. April and May are common months for application submission deadlines.

One Stop Office (Student Administrative Services)

One Stop provides seamless and integrated student administrative services throughout the entire student life cycle. One Stop includes cross-functional student solutions for:

  • records and enrollment services

  • managing student finances

  • parking and transportation services

(One Stop works closely with and can provide preliminary information about financial aid, Q-Cards, housing and dining. Advanced registrar functions such as degree conferrals, Dean’s List and diplomas are administered through the Registrar.)

January and Spring 2024 payment is past due

Students with unpaid balances who are not on payment plans from the January and spring 2024 terms will have late fees applied in early April. In addition, these students have holds on their accounts which will prevent them from registering for the Summer and Fall 2024 terms.  Students and their proxies should access Self-Service to check for outstanding balances and pay accounts in full.

Please visit the Resolve a Balance Due page of our website to learn how to check if your student has a balance and how to resolve it.

Tax forms available

As required by the Internal Revenue Service, Form 1098-T is available to all students with qualified tuition and other related educational expenses paid during the previous calendar year.

1098-T forms also are available through Self-Service when students login using their Quinnipiac credentials. Click on Tax Information and select 1098 Information to access 1098-T statements.

Summer and Fall 2024 tuition and fees due dates announced

With Summer and Fall 2024 registration just around the corner the billing dates and payment due dates for Summer and Fall 2024 have been announced. Please visit the When is tuition due for Summer and Fall 2024 FAQ on our website.

Credit Card Payments

Please note that all payments made with a credit card will incur a credit card processing fee. This fee is charged by the credit card processing vendor. There are multiple alerts concerning this fee in our payment portal. The credit card processing vendor does not return these fees so please be mindful when making your payments.

Please reference the following for assistance as needed:

Should you have additional questions that may not be addressed above, please contact One Stop at onestop@qu.edu. If your questions are about financial aid, please contact finaid@qu.edu.

One Stop Announcements

Beginning May 1, 2023, tuition and fee payments via credit card will incur a 2.95% fee from our vendor. This is a slight increase from the fee that our vendor charged previously (which was 2.85%). ACH transactions will not incur any fees.

Beginning December 1, 2022, parking permits, parking tickets, and housing deposit transactions paid via credit or debit card will incur a 3.3% fee from our vendor. This is a slight increase from the fee that our vendor charged previously (which was 3.14%). ACH transactions will not incur any fees.

All students are reminded to check their student account balance in Self-Service regularly.

Log into Self-Service

Outstanding balances result in financial holds and can lead to a late fee charge. A financial hold prevents students from registering for classes, adding or dropping a class, receiving final grades or transcripts and more.

Please reference the following for assistance as needed:

The Self-Service Finance Guide provides complete instructions on using Self-Service to set up a proxy, view and pay invoices and set up a payment plan.

Costs and budgets provide detailed information on tuition and fees.

The Paying for College section provides information to answer most financial aid questions.

Additional questions which are not addressed above, should be directed to One Stop at onestop@qu.edu.

Office of the Registrar (Academic Enrollment and Course Schedules)

Summer and Fall Course Enrollment

Graduate and law students will register starting the week of March 25, and undergraduate students will register on their assigned day and time in April. Students will receive an email at their Quinnipiac email address with their appointment times. Student can also see their registration day and time at Self-Service

Students should only log into the Self-Service with one device. Logging in with multiple devices can cause a system overload.

Before registering for summer and fall classes, students should work with their faculty adviser to plan their degree path within Stellic. Students can see their faculty adviser on the Stellic profile.

To register for courses, students will use Self-Service

Students should check for any holds that may prevent them from registering. Students should work with the appropriate office to resolve them before their registration date.

If students are not returning to Quinnipiac, they should complete a leave of absence form or withdrawal form.

Students should update address, cellphone, and other contact information under their user profile in Self-Service.

Additional registration period:

  • April 8 to 19: Open registration for all current students at all academic levels to register for summer and/or fall courses

  • April 29 to May 21: Open registration for summer and fall courses

  • May 22 to June 9: Open registration for fall courses

  • May 27 to July 9: Open registration for summer II

Student Conduct

Spring is upon us. The Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards values the support of parents and families in keeping our community safe. Please take note of the following:

Unrecognized fraternities: Phi Gamma Delta (Fiji) and Delta Tau Delta (Delt) are not recognized by Quinnipiac. Both Phi Gamma Delta and Delta Tau Delta were suspended by Quinnipiac in spring of 2022 following a history of multiple violations of university policies. If your student has joined or discussed membership in either Phi Gamma Delta or Delta Tau Delta since fall 2022, please understand that they are not a member of a fraternity recognized by Quinnipiac.

They are also not recognized as members of these fraternities by either of the national headquarters of these organizations. Furthermore, membership in either one of these organizations may by itself represent a violation of university policy given that the university has ordered that these organizations disband. Please encourage your students to join a recognized organization so that they can receive the full benefits of fraternity membership. Please review this website to learn more about the fraternity and sorority community at Quinnipiac.

Off-campus gatherings: Spring is a time when students like to gather outside. It can be very tempting for students living in off-campus houses and apartments to host parties. In prior years, these parties have become dangerous and disruptive as word travels fast and crowds can quickly become overwhelming for the hosts.

Under our Good Neighbor Policy, students who host parties are responsible for the behavior of their guests as well as for all elements of a party regardless of their original intent. This includes the following important stipulation: “Connecticut state law and court decisions have held the social host liable for personal injury and property damage caused to a third party as a result of the irresponsible service of alcoholic beverages to guests, regardless of age. In addition, social hosts do not need to actually provide alcohol to their guests; they merely need to provide the venue for others to engage in irresponsible behavior.” Please discuss these expectations with your student as violations of the Good Neighbor Policy may result in separation from the university and for seniors it may result in losing the privilege to participate in our spring commencement ceremony. If your student lives off campus, it is very important that they are respectful of the surrounding community and are respectful of the laws and policies governing conduct off campus.

Community, Assessment, Response and Evaluation (CARE) Team

The Quinnipiac CARE Team is here to support students navigating health and wellness, behavioral or situational concerns. One in three first year students received support from this team last academic year and there are staff all across the university community that are prepared to help students! If you are concerned about a Quinnipiac student, more information about how to submit a CARE referral can be found on the CARE webpage

Graduating Students

Information on Commencement 2024 can be found on the Commencement website. This website will be updated with information throughout the semester as we lead into Commencement weekend.

All eligible graduates receive emails from quevents@qu.edu. Please encourage your graduate to check their inbox for these emails.

We receive a lot of questions about ceremony tickets. Information about registering for Commencement tickets will go out to all eligible graduates later this semester and information on tickets can also be found on the Commencement website.

The Commencement Committee hosts a variety of life skills workshops throughout the semester. Entitled the #Adulting series, workshops include Easy Finance Hacks for Your Life, The Absolute Beginners Guide to Meal Prepping, Basic Sewing Skills, Controlling Your Digital Presence and more. All graduates receive information on the workshops and how to register. See the full schedule and register. Please encourage your graduate to attend these worthwhile workshops.

Parents and Family Leadership Council

Show your Bobcat pride: Join the Quinnipiac Parents and Family Leadership Council!

Interested in joining? As members of the Parents and Families Leadership Council, we invite you to directly engage in and join a partnership focusing on the continued success of Quinnipiac. As a member, you will be invited to two meetings per academic year with university leadership and fellow council members, receive exclusive parent email updates and have the opportunity to attend many invitation-only receptions, including parent and family networking and social events. Members receive multiple opportunities to meet, advise and network with university leadership and administration, deans, faculty, staff and fellow families.

While each family customizes their experience to meet their family needs, the only requirement to join is a desire to help make a difference with an annual leadership gift in support of the university’s priorities and initiatives.

Benefits of joining the Quinnipiac Parents and Family Leadership Council:
