David Facchini ’09, MBA ’12

For David Facchini, pursuing a career in the health care industry was a no-brainer.

As a high school student, the Oxford, Conn., native worked as a patient transporter at Griffin Hospital in Derby. His dad is an administrator at a home health care facility and his mom is a respiratory therapist.

So when it came time for college, Quinnipiac's reputation in the health sciences made it a good fit. Facchini earned his bachelor's degree in diagnostic imaging and an MBA in health care management, both from Quinnipiac.

As an undergraduate, Facchini says the DI program gave him a broad perspective on his chosen field. "You get so many different clinical experiences--from outpatient office to big trauma hospitals. You get to see what you like," he says.

After graduating, Facchini worked as an X-ray technologist but soon realized that a graduate degree would help him achieve his long-term goal of moving to the administrative side of health care.

Quinnipiac's MBA program gave him a solid framework for management and business and served as a springboard for a big career move.

After completing the program, Facchini landed a position as operations quality supervisor at Yale New Haven Hospital Diagnostic Radiology in Hamden, where he oversees 29 technologists and staff and works behind-the-scenes to facilitate patient care. He also helps to manage eight facilities in the Yale Diagnostic Radiology Outpatient System.

It's a challenging role, especially for the 25-year old Facchini, who manages several staff members 20 years his senior. With one year in the position under his belt, Facchini has big ambitions for the future. He says he would love to be the CEO of a hospital someday.

For now, he's enjoying his current role, which also includes some clinical work. Facchini still occasionally dons scrubs and fills in when a technologist is out sick. He also serves as a clinical instructor for Quinnipiac's diagnostic imaging program.

"That's what I love most about health care--the clinical side."
