Trademarks and Copyright in the Digital Age

(2 cr.) This course provides a practical understanding of trademarks and copyrights and their importance in the business world, from the vantage point of a practitioner in this field. The course includes creation of rights, statutory protection, and enforcement of rights, with emphasis on the ever-changing digital world and the overall evolution of copyright and trademark laws in the context of protecting clients' brands and works of authorship. Grading is based on a paper submitted at the end of the semester, together with class participation and some practical writing exercises throughout the semester.
