Professor Ammons received her B.S. in Accounting with High Honors from Virginia Commonwealth University and her Ph.D. in Accounting from the University of Michigan, where she was the recipient of the Dykstra Award for Teaching Excellence. Prior to joining Quinnipiac, she was on faculty at New Mexico State University, where she received the Sunwest Bank Award for Outstanding Performance in Graduate Teaching. She teaches for Yale during its Summer Sessions. She has published articles in numerous practitioner and academic business journals. Her writing interests focus on a variety of issues such as: integrating comics in business education to develop financial intelligence by making use of visual imagery, graphic design, narrative and emotional expression (gesture, facial expression, sound effects and emanata) to engage students in simultaneous multiple intelligence learning; improving understanding of challenges analysts face when comparing firms’ performance (e.g., ratio analysis for working capital issues as well as how firms apportion their fiscal year on quarterly reports filed with the SEC); teaching/learning-related topics such as assessment and the evaluation of group performance. Professor Ammons has served Quinnipiac in various ways including as department chair, director of the M.S. in Accounting program, chair of the School of Business and Engineering Undergraduate Curriculum Committee, co-chair of the AACSB Accounting Assurance of Learning Committee, member of the University Senate, co-chair of University Technology Committee, member of the School of Business Evaluation Committee and University Review Committee.
