Quinnipiac’s School of Nursing offers six CCNE-accredited pathways toward earning a specialized MSN and fulfilling roles as nurse leaders in a multitude of settings.

*All coursework for these programs is completed online. Students are required to attend three or four one-week immersions on campus in Connecticut. Due to state regulations, clinical hours may not be completed in the state of New York.

Six pathways to a specialized MSN

Students who complete any of the four nurse practitioner programs will be eligible to sit for the corresponding national certification exam. Within two years of completing an MSN, students also have the option to seamlessly transition into the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program without losing any credits or duplicating any coursework.

MSN in Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner

This program prepares nurses who have at least one year of acute care experience to deliver life-saving treatments in acute care settings like hospital intensive care units and emergency rooms. In addition to assessing the needs of patients, this program will teach the pharmacological, non-pharmacological and interventional theory required for success in high-risk acute care settings.

MSN in Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner

MSN in Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner

The MSN in Adult-Gerontology Primary Care teaches the knowledge and skills to provide advanced nursing care to adult patients in a wide variety of settings including outpatient clinics, medical offices and skilled nursing facilities. Focused on holistic health and wellness and treating the entire patient, this program prepares nurses to provide high-quality, cost-effective primary care across the lifespan of adolescents, adults and the rapidly aging population.

MSN in Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner

MSN in Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

The MSN in Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program prepares nurses who have at least one year of nursing experience to effectively provide care and prescribe medication for patients with mental health issues. The program prepares students to work across the patient lifespan and healthcare spectrum and care for vulnerable populations in a multitude of settings.

MSN in Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

MSN in Family Nurse Practitioner

This program prepares nurses with at least one year of experience to diagnose and manage common illnesses for patients of all ages and to assume the responsibility inherent in prescribing medications. It's designed for working nurses who want to further their education and expand their credentials without sacrificing hands-on experience through clinical practice.

MSN in Family Nurse Practitioner

MSN in Nursing Education

To meet the growing shortage for nurse educators, the MSN in Nursing Education prepares you to educate the next generation of nurses. The curriculum of this program aligns with the national credentialing opportunities offered by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and National League for Nursing (NLN).
