The Quinnipiac physical therapy department collected more than 70 pairs of gently used shoes to be donated to homeless shelters throughout Connecticut recently as part of the American Physical Therapy Association of Connecticut’s PT Day of Service Shoe Drive.

In recognition of October being National Physical Therapy Month, the Graduate Physical Therapy Club at Quinnipiac wanted to get the university involved with the shoe drive and began to spread the word throughout the North Haven Campus.

Physical therapy student Nicole Mawhirter ’19, DPT ’22 said that she hopes Quinnipiac students, especially within the PT department, continue to launch and participate in initiatives like this to benefit the surrounding community.

“As students, we hope to make a direct positive impact in our local community that we are lucky and grateful to be a part of during our time at Quinnipiac,” said Mahwirter. “It was meaningful for our PT community to donate shoes, as proper footwear can help community members stay active and protect their feet against the elements.”
