Spring Into Fun: 10 Must-Do Campus & Local Activities

April 08, 2026

Arnold Bernhard Library can be seen amidst a beautiful spring day.

1. Go to the watering hole at the Sleeping Giant

Take a hike through Sleeping Giant State Park — located just across the street from our Mount Carmel Campus — and cool off at the small watering hole near the purple trail. It’s the perfect reward after a hike and a great spot to relax with friends while enjoying the scenery.

2. Get some ice cream for Wentworth’s

Stop by Wentworth's Homemade Ice Cream for a classic warm weather treat. With tons of homemade flavors and a nostalgic small-town vibe, it’s the perfect place to grab a cone after a long day.

3. Play spike ball on the Quad

When the sun comes out, the Quinnipiac Quad turns into the perfect hangout spot. Spikeball is easy to learn, super competitive, and a great way to get everyone outside enjoying the weather. Best of all, spike ball is one of numerous rental options that are available to all students at our Recreation and Wellness Center.

4. Make s’mores at the fire pits

Gather some friends around the outdoor fire pits and make classic s’mores with graham crackers, chocolate and marshmallows. It’s a simple but cozy way to spend a spring night after a busy day. Get all of the supplies you’ll need at the Bobcat Den.

5. Visit Local Coffee Shops

Take advantage of the warmer weather by exploring nearby coffee spots like Ground Up Coffee, Latte Soul, Common Grounds, and 7-Brew. There’s no better way to get into the spring mindset than enjoying a refreshing drink while discovering new favorite places.

6. Take a day trip to New Haven for the Wooster Square Cherry Blossom Festival

The Wooster Square Cherry Blossom Festival in New Haven celebrates the beautiful blooming cherry trees in the historic park. It’s a great chance to see the pink blossoms, enjoy local food vendors and take some great spring photos.

7. Visit the local farms

Spend an afternoon at a nearby farm where you can browse fresh local produce, try homemade ice cream and even visit the friendly goats. It’s a fun way to experience a little bit of the countryside just outside of our campus.

8. Run a 5K

Events like Hamden’s Camp Mountain Laurel Color & Trail Run or Hamden Fest are great ways to get active and enjoy the spring weather. Whether you’re running for competition or just for fun, the atmosphere is always energetic and supportive.

9. Grab a bite to eat and sit outside at the Whitney Donut & Sandwich Shop

Whitney Donut is well-known for its classic breakfast staples as well as fun sweet treats. Sitting outside with good food and sunshine is one of the best ways to start a spring morning.

10. Support Quinnipiac’s spring athletics

Spring sports are in full swing, so head out to watch teams like acrobatics & tumbling, baseball, golf, lacrosse, softball, tennis and track & field. It’s a fun way to show school spirit, enjoy the warm weather and support fellow Bobcats.
