Catherine Gillespie, director of spiritual and religious life, was elated to find a position that combined passions for higher education leadership with spiritual guidance at Quinnipiac
“When students walk into the Center for Religion, I hope they feel welcome,” said Gillespie. “The space is open for students to relax, do homework, or reserve rooms for events.”
She said Quinnipiac students are bucking the national trends and actually turning toward organized religions.
“There is a misconception that religion is dying among Gen Z and Gen Alpha, but at Quinnipiac, all organized religious groups are growing in attendance,” Gillespie said.
She said she feels inspired by students’ passion and enthusiasm.
“What has most shaped my own spirituality when working with others is really listening to what they are saying and holding space for them to share their experiences,” Gillespie said.
Creating a space for students allows them to feel supported and understood, she said.
“I am inspired by students’ passion and enthusiasm.” Gillespie said.
Through her work, she said she hopes to ensure that every student who walks through the doors of the Center for Religion feels welcomed, heard and supported as they navigate both their spiritual and personal journeys.
