Jamie Herrera ‘26 is a passionate nursing student who has held many roles at Quinnipiac. She is planning to start her nursing career in critical care after graduation.

“I chose Quinnipiac because of its strong reputation for nursing, its emphasis on hands-on clinical learning and the supportive community I felt from the moment I visited campus,” Herrera said. “I was drawn to the opportunity to grow, not only as a student, but as a future nurse. Looking back, I am completely confident it was the right choice. Quinnipiac challenged me academically, supported me personally and helped shape the nurse and person I am becoming.”

She has been able to participate in many unique clinical rotations, including medical-surgical units, maternity/OB, pediatrics, community health and psychiatric mental health.

“Each setting challenged me to grow in different ways, from strengthening clinical judgment to developing confidence in patient communication and compassionate care. My clinical experiences confirmed my passion for critical care nursing and gave me the valuable hands-on preparation,” she said.

Herrera has been active in multiple associations and leadership roles at Quinnipiac, including the American Holistic Nurses Association (AHNA) honor cord program.

“Some of my most meaningful leadership experiences have centered around mentorship and supporting others,” she said. “As a Grove Mentor, I helped incoming first-year students transition into college life by offering guidance, support and a sense of community. I was also part of the Q Student Nurses Association Senior Mentor Program, where I mentored junior nursing students as they adjusted to the rigor and demands of nursing school. Through both roles, I developed leadership through listening, encouragement, communication and learning how to support others through challenges.”

Herrera took away many unique and important skills from her clinical experiences.

“Quinnipiac prepared me through rigorous academics, diverse clinical placements, mentorship from faculty and other students and leadership opportunities outside the classroom. Beyond technical nursing skills, Quinnipiac helped me develop resilience, adaptability, teamwork and confidence. It taught me how to think critically, advocate for patients and lead with compassion,” Herrera said.

Herrera says she is appreciate of all that Quinnipiac has provided her.

“I am incredibly grateful for the mentors, classmates and patients who have shaped my journey. Quinnipiac has given me far more than a degree; it has given me a foundation for a meaningful career in nursing. It has been a privilege to be part of this community,” Herrera said.
