When Amari Smith ‘27 was looking for a university to transfer to, he knew Quinnipiac was the place for him when he felt a sense of personal connection.

Smith, a journalism major with a minor in law in society, has taken advantage of the many opportunities offered to him at Quinnipiac. Once he heard about Q30, the student-run television station on campus, he jumped at the opportunity to join.

“Q30 is great because no matter your skill level coming in, you’ll learn everything it takes to be a part of a successful newscast,” said Smith.

He quickly rose to become associate producer where he is responsible for helping plan weekly newscasts, repost and edit packages and segments and help run Q30’s live broadcast every Wednesday night.

Taking on this role has helped Smith learn what it really takes to cultivate proper leadership and teamwork.

“Exchanging perspectives, finding compromises and utilizing the unique skills that each member brings is the true essence of both leadership and effective teamwork,” he said.

Q30 has helped expand Smith’s knowledge of all the wonderful events taking place across the university’s three campuses.

“One week I may talk with panelists who spoke about the future of this university; another week I might cover a student-run clothing business,” he said.

He said this exposure not only broadens his understanding of campus life but also strengthens his ability to connect with diverse voices and stories
