Betsey Smith, senior associate dean of the School of Health Sciences at Quinnipiac, was named to the American Occupational Therapy Association’s Roster of Fellows at its annual conference on April 3 in San Antonio.

Smith was recognized for being a philanthropist, servant leader, dedicated educator, scholar and mentor. She is the seventh member of the Quinnipiac occupational therapy faculty to receive this prestigious honor.

“I am so honored to be recognized as a fellow of AOTA for my achievements as a leader and occupational therapy educator and mentor,” Smith said. “I am especially grateful to those in the Quinnipiac community who have provided support and inspiration for my work.”

Established in 1973, the Roster of Fellows recognizes occupational therapists who through their knowledge, expertise, leadership, advocacy, and/or guidance have made a significant contribution over time to the profession with a measured impact on consumers of occupational therapy services and/or members of the association.

“We are so proud of Betsey for receiving this national recognition,” said Janelle Chiasera, dean of the School of Health Sciences. “This is yet another reason why our occupational therapy program is nationally ranked – our talented and dedicated faculty who are recognized as leaders within their fields.”

Smith, who joined Quinnipiac as associate dean of the School of Health Sciences in 2008, holds a Ph.D. in professional higher education administration and a master’s degree in allied health from the University of Connecticut. She also has a bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy from Quinnipiac.
