Student seeks guidance from staff

Students enrolled in the Master of Arts in Teaching program in the School of Education now have the opportunity to participate in a paid internship or residency during the fall and spring semesters. Through partnerships with local school districts, these experiences provide guided professional practice in real classrooms while offering a guaranteed tuition reduction of up to 50 percent for eligible candidates.

“Quinnipiac recognizes a simple truth: preparing great teachers should not come at the expense of their financial future,” said Anne Dichele, dean of the School of Education. “Through paid internships, residency placements, scholarships and financial aid, MAT candidates can significantly reduce the cost of their education while gaining meaningful, hands-on classroom experience.”

Students who are not currently employed by a school district will be placed as either interns or residents, gaining full-time classroom experience while reducing the overall cost of their degree.

Candidates who are already employed by a school district may be eligible for additional tuition assistance through their employer, she said. Financial aid is also available to all students in the MAT program.

“We work closely with each student to ensure their cost of attendance is manageable and aligned with their individual circumstances,” Dichele said. “We want students to fully take advantage of the tuition assistance, paid experiences and resources available to them while they prepare for the classroom.”

After successfully completing one year of study in the MAT program, students may be hired as a teacher of record under a Resident Educator Certificate issued by the State of Connecticut, which will enable students to continue gaining professional experience while completing their degree. Currently, the MAT program has a 98% percent successful job placement rate.

“By pairing immersive classroom learning with guaranteed tuition savings, Quinnipiac’s MAT program offers a thoughtful and sustainable pathway into the teaching profession, preparing graduates for today’s classrooms while helping them manage the cost of their education,” Dichele said.
