University marks wellness week with unique opportunities — including a LifeStar helicopter campus visit

October 04, 2022

Students and faculty member are hanging out at a Fresh Check day booth.

Quinnipiac students will have a unique opportunity to take a break from studying next week in recognition of wellness week.

Thanks to the university’s partnership with Hartford HealthCare, students will have the opportunity to check out a LifeStar helicopter — set to land on the rugby field from 11:15 to 2:15 p.m., on Friday — weather-permitting. Students, faculty and staff will be able to meet the flight crew and participate in emergency medical training sessions — as well as learn CPR.

Students will also be able to compete head-to-head with five of the top surgeons in the state — in a pumpkin-carving competition. The event will take place in the piazza Wednesday, October 12 from 6 to 8 p.m.

“Anyone can come to judge and experience some fall fun,” said Marketing Director of Hartford HealthCare Erika Stinson.

The university’s annual Fresh Check Day will kick off the week on the Quad on Tuesday, October 11 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Students, faculty and staff can take part in interactive booths to engage student participation. The goal of the event is for students to gain awareness on mental health and suicide prevention. Participants will learn how to identify their own risks and identify signs that friends may be struggling. Students can meet members of the Hartford HealthCare team and interact with their robot dog.
