Housing changes announced

Double bedroom in The Commons

Congratulations on your high school graduation, which is fast approaching. We trust you’re enjoying this special time, while also looking forward to the many opportunities ahead. At Quinnipiac, we can’t wait to welcome you to campus later this summer!

We are busy with many new programs and facilities. There are several new majors and minors that you can pursue, as well as fantastic facilities to enjoy, including our new Recreation and Wellness Center, new classrooms, and the upcoming new buildings that will come online in 1 to 2 years, including a residence hall, a new home for our School of Business and a new academic building. New athletic facilities, including six new tennis courts and a new baseball field, will be completed soon. And let’s not forget our national champion men's hockey team, which will be back on the ice in our M&T Bank Arena in the fall. It’s never been a more exciting time to be a Bobcat.

With these exciting additions, we wanted to update you on a few developments. We experienced a significant increase in the number of applicants and those who chose to attend Quinnipiac. As a result, we expect a somewhat larger on-campus resident cohort than planned. Accordingly, we will have to make some adjustments to our housing plans for first-year students living on campus:

  • Quad-style rooms – Historically, rooms in Commons and Ledges were all quads and because of their larger size, were charged at the rate of doubles. We will return to using them at their originally designed capacity of four students, meaning that incoming students will be placed with two or three roommates in a quad-style room.

  • $1,000/semester housing discount – To acknowledge this change, we will provide those who are placed with two or three roommates in a quad a $1,000 per semester housing discount. We are providing the housing discount because we communicated to some of you during campus tours that rooms in these residence halls would be doubles in 2023-24. Please note, if at any point during the academic year a student is moved (with their consent) into a room with only one other roommate, the housing discount will be removed on a pro-rated basis.

  • Room assignments – Students will be assigned to quads by the staff, or — if it can be accommodated — based on their Living-Learning Community request. If you would prefer to live in a quad with two or three roommates, you may opt in by completing our electronic request form by June 1. Please note: We are not taking requests for singles, doubles or triples; students who do not request a quad may still be assigned to one, subject to space availability.

  • Residential Life staff support – Support services and engagement opportunities for all students residing on campus is a critical priority. Quinnipiac will be adding residential life staff support, RAs and programming for the incoming class.

We understand that this is unanticipated news, yet we are confident that you will have a fantastic first-year experience at Quinnipiac, with new friends and the exciting developments all across Quinnipiac.

If you haven’t yet turned in your housing contract, it is due May 26, 2023. You may also view more detailed hosing information on our website. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact us at ResidentialLife@quinnipiac.edu. We're here to help and are eager to see you soon on campus!
