Quinnipiac students participate in the greek day of service

Every year, the fraternities and sororities at Quinnipiac place an emphasis on philanthropy and giving back to their community. During the past academic year, the organizations raised $141,946 and performed 7,493 hours of community service.

Each fraternity and sorority has designated partnerships with local and national organizations based on their values. The organizations then raise funds for their perspective causes through events, said Avery Moses, director of fraternity and sorority life.

Most of these partnerships have been cultivated over decades and are a driving force for each organization, added Moses.

Making a difference throughout the community is a major part of what it means to be a part of fraternity and sorority life at Quinnipiac.

“The Quinnipiac fraternity and sorority community operates on four pillars—leadership through strength of character, growth through intellectual excellence, service through civic engagement and community through diversity and inclusion,” Moses stated.

These pillars are what propel students to be who they are and continue to make a difference.

Looking toward the upcoming year, the fraternity and sorority community will host its annual Greek Day of Service. For this coming year, this event will be held on September 30.

The event provides members of the fraternity and sorority community the opportunity to interact with the greater Hamden and New Haven community and give back.

“Last year, almost 300 students participated at 14 sites,” Moses said. “We anticipate an increase this year.”

Additionally, the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life is working on launching a new series of service projects with existing local partners in the community to provide additional opportunities to give back and make connections in the Hamden area.

Those looking to get involved in the sorority and fraternity scene can explore all the organizations and learn more about their charitable partners at the Engagement Fair on August 30 at 4 p.m.
