
Students shop for groceries, medications for Hamden neighbors

Oates and her roommates, who live off-campus in a private home, quickly rolled up their sleeves and reached out to their older and immunocompromised neighbors to offer to pick up groceries and prescriptions. Since moving back to Hamden after spring break, they have been in touch with more than 15 neighbors. They have already completed four grocery shopping trips – and are already planning future trips.
“It has been very rewarding, but also alarming to see how many people are left without support during this time,” she said. “It’s nice to know that we are giving them the support they need. We are all in this together.”
