Two friends walking during the sunset

As the fall semester approaches, students are filled with anticipation for the next chapter of their lives and moving into their new home at Quinnipiac. For the incoming first-years, sharing a living space with an unfamiliar face might stir up a few nerves but these new beginnings lead to lasting friendships.

Hike the Sleeping Giant

Take a leisurely stroll or venture along the extensive two-mile stretch of mountaintops at the Sleeping Giant State Park right across Mount Carmel Avenue from the Mount Carmel Campus. The park offers various trails for beginners and seasoned enthusiasts. Its true beauty flourishes in the fall when the mountain becomes a canvas of vibrant, multi-colored foliage.

Attend Student Programming Board events

Throughout the semester, the Student Programming Board (SPB) hosts fun events for all students to enjoy like movie nights on the Quad, live entertainment performances, and arts and crafts. Bringing a friend to explore live concerts at Fall Fest and Wake the Giant are memories students will cherish forever. SPB also sells travel trip tickets where students gain the opportunity to visit Fenway Park in Boston, a day trip into New York City and so much more. The fun never stops!

Take a shuttle ride to New Haven Entertainment and Shopping Center

Grab your roommate and ride on the Downtown New Haven shuttle, which allows students to explore gift shops, scenic parks, dining and music and theater venues. The first thing that should be on your agenda is to explore the Taste of New Haven where students can try authentic New Haven-style pizza.

Binge-watch television series together

Gather around the TV because it’s movie night! Students can conveniently stop by the Bobcat Den down Bobcat Way, a mini-mart with all their essential snacks. Get the popcorn popping and pick your favorite TV show or movie. This nightly ritual is sure to strengthen connections and bring up engaging conversations.

Participate in Quinnipiac’s fitness classes at the Recreation and Wellness Center

After a long day of studying, students can join a fitness group with their friends. Once you have downloaded the new Quinnipiac RecWell app, there are many fitness classes to join such as Zumba and yoga. Then after the class has ended, stop by Shake Smart to grab a delicious protein shake and relax in the peaceful Zen Garden.

Host a homework study session

Book a study room! Whether or not you and your roommate have the same major, students can host a productive study session. Students can log into MyQ to book a study room in the Arnold Bernhard Library or if you’re looking for fresh air, students can be found with picnic blankets sitting on the quad with friends enjoying the sunny-filled days.

Explore all of Quinnipiac's campuses

Quinnipiac has three beautiful campuses to explore. The Mount Carmel Campus is home to academics, underclassmen residence halls, numerous athletics fields and stadiums, dining halls (plus Starbucks!) and a newly renovated Recreation and Wellness Center. On the York Hill Campus is where sports enthusiasts can be found at M&T Bank Arena and On the Rocks Pub and Grill, as well as upperclassmen housing. The North Haven Campus, just a shuttle ride away from the two Hamden campuses, boasts mock trial and simulation labs catering to law and medicine students, as well as the School of Education, Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine and School of Health Sciences.

Join a club or volunteer together

The engagement fair presents an ideal opportunity for students to explore Quinnipiac’s diverse range of organizations. There is something catered to everyone! Students run the organization booths and can answer all of your questions. Getting involved on campus is a great way to bond and meet new friends. Students can explore all of the options on Do you QU
