The future of the public relations profession rests in the hands of students such as Luna Charles ’19, Deanna DiRienzo '19, Catherine Fabiano '19 and Chelsea Jones '19. The 4 seniors in Quinnipiac’s public relations program were invited to Syracuse University’s Lubin House in New York City to take part in the third annual Challenge for Emerging Leaders.

The intensive two-day workshop, created by the University of Alabama’s Plank Center for Leadership in Public Relations, brought together a select group of high achieving PR majors from universities around the country, including Monmouth, Seton Hall and Syracuse.

Charles’s technical skillset, teamwork and leadership capabilities were on full display as she and her group worked on various activities and assessments, including a diversity case study.

“It was certainly challenging, but in the end, it was well worth it,” she said. “I left the workshop not only with a Certificate of Leadership Development, but with a great amount of confidence and motivation to start the next chapter in my life.”

Charles and the rest of the Quinnipiac cohort also had the chance to meet and network with representatives from companies such as AIG, Citi and Johnson & Johnson, capping a truly powerful experience.

“They shared great advice and tips for new professionals entering public relations,” Charles said. “Knowing what skills employers are looking for will help me to set myself apart from other applicants.”
