Quinnipiac has appointed W. Eric Sykes vice president for enrollment management.

Sykes comes to Quinnipiac from Emerson College, where he served as associate vice president of enrollment management and dean of admissions. At Emerson, he developed and maintained the college’s enrollment models to incorporate a wide range of data, including admission, enrollment and financial aid information. His work helped Emerson enhance the geographic diversity of the entering class of first-year undergraduates, expand the number of online graduate programs (with a resulting 20% jump in enrollment), and dramatically increase the number of under-represented minority students in the school.

“Eric’s hallmarks are partnership and collaboration across the university community, weaving admissions efforts with the work of financial aid, enrollment management, academic affairs, finance and the president’s office – all in pursuit of the institution’s strategic goals,” Brown said.

Sykes said he is proud to join Quinnipiac University and looks forward to working with the dedicated staff, faculty and students to meet Quinnipiac’s enrollment goals.

“It is exciting for me to join Quinnipiac at a time when the institution has so clearly adopted a forward-thinking approach and I hope to contribute to a data-driven exploration of how we can best maximize the student experience from recruitment through graduation and beyond,” Sykes said.

“During the search process, I was particularly inspired by my conversations with the deans who each demonstrated a profound passion for their individual area, a collective concern for continued success within the competitive landscape of college admission, and a willingness to partner in pursuit of the university’s enrollment goals.”

Prior to his time in admissions at Emerson, Sykes worked in institutional research at Emerson and Xavier University; he was also an assistant professor of psychology at Dickinson College where he headed more than 20 research projects and taught a wide variety of courses, including advanced research methods, personality, cross-cultural psychology and stereotypes/prejudice.

Sykes has an M.S. in social and personality psychology with a concentration in psychometrics from Purdue University. He earned his B.S. at Loyola University, Chicago, where he majored in psychology and minored in mathematics.

“Eric’s background and experiences have given him a deep appreciation for the importance of working in teams and across traditional administrative and academic boundaries,” Brown said. “We are thrilled to bring him to Quinnipiac and can’t wait to work with him as we recruit and educate the next generation of Bobcats.”
