New initiative sets out to nurture internal, local and global well-being

A bunch of students sit out on the grass of the quad in front of the library on a sunny day.

Quinnipiac is enhancing its culture of care that members of #BobcatNation carry with them well past their time at the university — with the launch of Health and Wellness Wednesdays.

“I hope students take a little time each day to do some self-reflection,” said Kevin Parker, the prevention and wellness educator. “I hope they ask themselves ‘How am I doing?’ ‘How’s my body feeling?’ ‘How’s my sense of self?’”

The initiative features a new topic each week — often coinciding national and local awareness campaigns.

And Parker only sees the program growing.

“I can see Wellness Wednesday tents in the Rocky Top Student Center, on Bobcat Way and in North Haven and staffed by students who are trained to bring health education information to their peers,” he said.

Even now, the initiative is expanding to include faculty who specialize in different target areas to help educate and inform students.

“Wellness isn’t one person’s responsibility,” said Parker. “We’re all on Team Wellness.”
