Quinnipiac students will soon unveil a new level of athletic competition — club sports.

Current full-time undergraduate, graduate, law and medical students in good standing with the university may begin submitting their applications for the first sports teams on Wednesday, March 20 to begin competing with students from other universities this fall. Applications are due by Sunday, March 31, at noon. The approved clubs will be announced on April 10.

The university will host information sessions in Carl Hansen Student Center, SC–119, for students who want to learn more about starting a club sport team.

  • Tuesday, March 26, noon–12:30 p.m.

  • Wednesday, March 27, 2:30–3 p.m.

  • Thursday, March 28, 5–5:30 p.m.

Students can log in to MyQ (password required) to learn more about the club sports application process and to submit their applications.

In addition, students can connect with the club sports social accounts, @QUClubSports:

“Club sports will offer students leadership opportunities,” said Mike Medina, associate athletic director. “Students are elected to leadership positions and oversee many aspects of their team, including budgeting and scheduling.”

Based on league rules, there may be a certain number of years that a student is eligible to play, depending on the particular sport. Costs will vary by team, but students will pay dues to offset some of the costs associated with club sports.

Most seasons will be approximately two months long, with national tournaments at the end of the regular/conference tournament season.

Student input and, in particular, former and current Student Government Association representatives were instrumental in establishing club sports at Quinnipiac.
