Three students run On the Rocks Pub and Grill on the York Hill campus

Bobcats have the opportunity to grab friends and make memories on campus as the On the Rocks Pub and Grill enters its second year of operation.

The pub, located in the Rocky Top Student Center on the York Hill Campus, will open its doors for the 2022-23 academic year on September 12th.

Students can hang out and enjoy snacks and drinks on Mondays and Thursdays from 6 to 10 p.m. The facility will be completely run by two students, Joseph Coverly ‘24 and Savitri George ’23, MS ’24, who will be managing operations.

“We want to enhance the student experience and we are the first to ever run a student venture at Quinnipiac. It’s a huge task to take on, but we are excited to gain real-world knowledge, to be able to take an idea and run with it,” said Coverly. “We want the pub to be an inclusive environment for clubs and organizations, a place for students to watch games and more.”

The group is now recruiting student employees through social media platforms. They plan on spreading the word about On the Rocks and generating interest all around campus, said Coverly.

Students 21 and over must show both their student IDs and legal IDs to consume alcohol in the pub. Those able to drink will receive a wristband at the door prior to enjoying all the pub has to offer.

Quinnipiac's dining partner, Chartwells, will provide food, with three Chartwells employees helping the student managers to navigate the restaurant business. The managers will receive a weekly salary, with their textbook costs covered by the university.

The group is planning an array of programming and raffles, with prizes including Swiss Army backpacks, smart televisions and Airpods.

The group is already scheduling a slew of fun-themed activities, including a Halloween costume party and an ugly Christmas sweater gathering. They are also putting together an advisory board of relatives, acquaintances and others who may offer guidance on how to run a successful restaurant.
