The Foundations in Ethical AI micro-credential is awarded to students who attend university events discussing ethical AI and technology and demonstrate their learning through a reflective exercise.
This Level I badge engages participants in ethical issues surrounding AI use. Topics include the intersection of AI and intellectual property, what constitutes unfair use or cheating, bias in AI systems (both algorithmic and inherent) and environmental impacts. The program culminates in a reflective synthesis demonstrating understanding and application of learned ethical AI principles.
You should pursue this micro-credential if:
You are an undergraduate or graduate student at Quinnipiac
You are interested in AI use and its implications
This program requires students to attend a minimum of five university co-curricular events on Ethical AI/Ethics in AI/Ethics in Technology or complete five virtual modules provided, or a combination of the two.
Learners will earn a Level I Badge upon successful completion of the following criteria.
Attend a minimum of five university co-curricular events on Ethical AI/Ethics in AI/Ethics in Technology or complete five virtual modules provided, or a combination of the two.
Complete a written or video artifact reflecting on what they learned in the event/module. The reflection should address two issues they learned about relating to the ethics of AI, discuss how ethical AI use relates to academic integrity and how that knowledge may impact their use of AI at university or in their future career.
The artifact will be graded using a rubric. Students should meet expectations in each section, with the goal of exceeding expectations in at least one category.
Engage with key ethical challenges related to the use of AI across academic and professional contexts
Examine issues of academic integrity and intellectual property
Recognize bias in AI systems and its potential effects
Identify the environmental and social impacts of AI
Apply ethical reasoning to AI-related scenarios to make informed and responsible decisions
Recognize and anticipate emerging trends in AI and their potential future impacts
These badges reflect the learner's acquisition of skills, vocabulary or best practices that will be beneficial and relevant outside of the classroom within an authentic working environment.
By earning a micro-credential, learners across a wide array of industries, verticals and professional fields are able to showcase the acquisition of specialized knowledge that offers unique value in the workplace. Micro-credentials are flexible and versatile, designed and delivered in an accelerated format by our experienced faculty and industry thought leaders who understand critical shortages and skills gaps.
All students who complete a micro-credential associated with academic credit or co-curricular experiences will receive a designation on their transcript and a digital badge through Credly. Micro-credential earners are encouraged to share their achievements on resumes, social media platforms and e-portfolios.
Learners can begin their pursuit of micro-credentials at any level; individuals who are new to the field are best suited for Participation or Level I badges, whereas experienced professionals might be more interested in advanced Level III Badges or Level IV Certifications.
