‘Designing Our Future’ Facilities Plan

“Designing Our Future” is Quinnipiac’s blueprint for the university’s master facilities plan, which began in 2021. It brings to life the vision and aspirations set forth in Quinnipiac’s strategic plan, The University of The Future. True to our history, it is a plan powered by momentum, growth and a commitment to making the world around us a better place.

A Vision For the Future

”Designing our Future“ includes projects to evolve and reimagine our three campuses. This master facilities plan outlines the contours of the physical footprint of our campuses including facilities, living and learning spaces, greenspaces and social hubs. “Designing Our Future” serves as the critical foundation for enhancing the intellectual, social, cultural and emotional wellbeing of the Bobcat family, and the communities we touch. The plan establishes a flexible, powerful, long-term vision for campus development that advances Quinnipiac’s strategic plan.

Our Mount Carmel Campus is home to most of our residence halls and academic buildings — as well as student life with the Carl Hansen Student Center, dining options, the Athletic and Recreation Center and the Arnold Bernhard Library.

The South Quad project transformed the Mount Carmel Campus with the successful completion of South Quad, which includes: The Grove residence hall; The SITE academic building dedicated to science, innovation, technology and exploration; and the new School of Business.

Strategic Priorities That Shaped Our Master Plan

An exceptional student residential experience is essential to creating a dynamic on-campus environment for all students – residential and non-residential. The plan includes building new residence halls while also creating more space for social gatherings and engagement with each other, and with faculty, staff and alumni across all three of our campuses.

A combination of new facilities and renovations to existing ones will provide the academic and student support space required to help our students thrive and deliver a best-in-class academic experience and more hands-on experiential learning opportunities.

Our beautiful campuses will always be home to a dynamic on-campus environment that deliver an exceptional student experience. Our master plan will explore ways to take advantage of the great outdoor spaces we have across our beautiful campuses to promote more active outdoor lifestyles and connections with nature.

Within each campus, the Master Plan prioritizes a clear, well-defined pedestrian experience that more easily connects people and places, which is critical as we look to create living-learning communities that integrate the academic experience with the student life experience. We will also partner with the Town of Hamden to explore how we evolve Hamden from a town with a college in it, into a vibrant college town.

Our master plan takes a holistic look at all 3 campuses and ways we can unify them – in services, programming and even the look and feel of the spaces – so there is truly a feeling of One Quinnipiac regardless of whether you’re in North Haven, up on York Hill, or on Mount Carmel.

Transformative vision for the student experience

South Quad consists of three buildings:

  • School of Business, opened in 2025

  • The SITE academic building, dedicated to science, innovation, technology and exploration, opened in 2025

  • The Grove residence hall, opened in 2024

These three buildings support student learning and social development, while providing faculty with state-of-the-art facilities for research, advanced pedagogy and immersive learning approaches that model future careers.

The South Quad is located between Tator Hall, the College of Arts and Sciences, and the Commons residence hall.

Nurturing ambitious and collaborative learning opportunities

This 137,000-square-foot academic building, The SITE, which stands for science, innovation, technology and exploration, features state-of-the-art wet and dry labs, space to expand Quinnipiac’s computing programs, new classrooms, collaborative spaces for breakout and group study, and offices for deans and faculty. In addition, the building houses a modern auditorium to seat more than 700 people for both university and community events.

New School of Business

Committed to environmental sustainability and lifelong learning

Home to future business leaders and entrepreneurs, the 79,000-square-foot School of Business features a Business Innovation Hub as an incubator to build and test new ideas; a financial technology center where students will use cutting-edge trading platforms, investment tools and data systems; faculty offices; and flexible lecture and event spaces that can seat up to 150 people to facilitate large and small gatherings. An environmentally conscious central energy plant also is housed below the new School of Business.

Recreation and Wellness Center

Reaching new heights

Opened in 2023, the new multi-purpose facility includes expanded recreational space and equipment, a rock-climbing wall, an upgraded health center, a counseling center with stunning outdoor views and a fuel bar for pre- and post-workout nutritional needs. Outside the building is an amphitheater and other inviting spaces. The entire building and the programming it delivers is designed with the health and wellbeing of our campus community at its core.

The Recreation and Wellness Center, opened in 2023, offers facilities and programming to meet wide range of health and wellness services, including fitness studios, equipment and classes; a smoothie bar for refueling and a demonstration kitchen to learn new cooking skills; healthcare services and facilities for a range of medical needs; and counseling space and professionals for mental health services.

Space for community and comfort

The residence hall, which opened in Fall 2024, includes singles and doubles, accommodates more residential students on campus and enriches the living-learning experience. Carefully designed to promote extracurricular opportunities for students, the air-conditioned building includes group gathering spaces, lounges and an outdoor courtyard to help build community while also advancing career readiness and emotional wellbeing.

On the Rocks Pub & Grill

Connect and Recharge

On The Rocks Pub and Grill in the Rocky Top Student Center opened in the spring of 2020. This new social and gathering space was the culmination of two years of collaboration and work between university officials and student representatives. On the Rocks hosts members of the university community in a variety of seating arrangements — from bar stools and booths to farm tables as they enjoy beer and wine, non-alcoholic beverages and pub-style food. The space incudes televisions throughout, pool tables, shuffle boards, and a stage for live performances. And an ever-changing line-up of student programming keeps students connected all year long.

The Suites Residence Hall Renovations

Modern amenities for modern times

Larson, Perlroth and Troup residence halls (collectively known as The Suites) underwent a full renovation in the summer of 2019. All three buildings feature a new modern design that extends from all common areas into suite style units, bedrooms and bathrooms. The renovation included air-conditioning throughout the buildings and new furniture in every bedroom and common room.
