Bernadette Mele is Chair and Clinical Professor in the Diagnostic Imaging Department at Quinnipiac University and Director of the graduate Radiologist Assistant program. She teaches undergraduate radiologic sciences courses and graduate-level didactic and clinical magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) courses, with an emphasis on professional preparation and clinical competency.
Dr. Mele's teaching focuses on advancing clinical education, safety and protection, clinical decision-making, and leadership development in diagnostic imaging. She is committed to mentoring students and supporting their academic and professional growth as they prepare for careers in diagnostic imaging and advanced practice roles. Her instructional approach is informed by ongoing clinical practice and collaboration with clinical partners, allowing students to engage with current technologies and evolving healthcare environments. Her commitment to the profession is grounded in a personal journey that first inspired her to pursue medical imaging.
Dr. Mele has more than 20 years of experience in medical imaging. She began her career as a radiologic technologist and advanced to serve as a Chief Technologist in MRI. She continues to practice clinically as a registered radiologic technologist and MRI technologist in Connecticut. Her leadership includes service as Faculty Senate Chair at Quinnipiac University, organizational leadership at Yale-New Haven Hospital, Co-Chair of the Connecticut healthcare workforce task force, President-Elect of the Connecticut Society of Radiologic Technologists, and recipient of the John Archer Memorial Award. She is actively involved in professional advocacy through the CSRT and volunteer service with the American Society of Radiologic Technologists, supporting legislative initiatives and advancement of the profession.
