Carl J Kovelowski

Assistant Professor of Medical Sciences

Carl J. Kovelowski earned his undergraduate degree in neuropsychology from Temple University. He received his Ph.D. in Pharmacology and Toxicology from the University of Arizona, where his research interests included opioid pharmacology and pain circuitry in both the brain and spinal cord. His post-doctoral research focused on investigating the possible role of brain microglia in the progression of Alzheimer’s disease. His clinical exposure to neurodegenerative disorders led to his interest in pursuing a doctorate in medicine from St. George’s University.

Dr. Kovelowski teaches in both the first and second year medical curriculum. His content expertise includes histology, cell biology, physiology, neuroscience, neuroanatomy, and gross anatomy. He has reimagined the delivery of the medical curriculum creating impactful modules designed to introduce and reinforce curricular content. Currently, he is exploring ways to introduce and integrate pathology into the first year medical curriculum.
