Cynthia Barrere is Chair of Faculty Development, Director of Research and a professor in the School of Nursing at Quinnipiac University. She is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and Board Certified Advanced Holistic Nurse.

Before joining Quinnipiac in 2004, Barrere was a clinical nurse specialist at Waterbury Hospital, in Connecticut, where she held several clinical, teaching, and leadership positions. Her work and research in oncology, cardiovascular nursing and end-of-life care were guided by holistic core values and the advancement of whole-person care.

Barrere’s work has been recognized both within the Quinnipiac community and at the national level. She leveraged her leadership positions in the American Holistic Nurses Association (AHNA) and Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses (AMSN) to spark enthusiasm for nursing scholarship through conference presentations, individual consultations, research, evidence-based practice, and process improvement publications. She also launched the Research Consultation program through AHNA, increasing the use of scientific evidence among holistic nurses.

Barrere is an Associate Editor for the Journal of Holistic Nursing, a member of the Editorial Board of Holistic Nursing Practice and a recognized authority in evidence-based practice and quality improvement and holistic nursing. She was essential in fostering Quinnipiac’s national reputation for holistic education, helping its baccalaureate and nurse practitioner programs achieve endorsement by the AHNA.
