Fodei J. Batty

Professor of Political Science

Dr. Fodei Batty is a professor of Political Science in the Department of Philosophy and Political Science at Quinnipiac University where he teaches courses in Comparative and International Politics, and research methods. Prior to holding this position, he was a visiting assistant professor of Political Science at Colgate University in Hamilton, NY. His research and teaching interests are in sub-Saharan Africa and developing societies in other parts of the world. Between 2007 and 2009, Dr. Batty served as a policy analyst in the Office of the President of Sierra Leone under a UNDP Capacity Building Grant to the Government of Sierra Leone. In 2007, Dr. Batty was awarded the Jennings Randolph Peace Scholar Fellowship by the United States Institute of Peace for his dissertation research studying post-conflict political behavior and mobilization in Sierra Leone and Liberia. Dr. Batty is also a recipient of two United States Fulbright fellowships to Sierra Leone, in addition to other awards. Dr. Batty has published peer-reviewed articles in journals such as the African Studies Review, Civil Wars, and the Journal of Asian and African Studies. His viewpoint has also been published as op-ed pieces or letters in local and national papers such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, and the Hartford Courant. Dr. Batty has consulted for international organizations such as the British Department for International Development (DfID) and International Organization for Migration (IOM). Dr. Batty received his Ph.D. in Political Science in 2010 from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
