Jeffrey Saerys-Foy is an Associate Professor of Psychology. He teaches Introduction to Psychology (PS 101), Introduction to Statistics in Psychology (PS 206), Introduction to Research Methods in Psychology (PS 307), Cognitive Psychology (PS 233), and Sensation and Perception (PS 354). He earned his Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology at Stony Brook University.
His background is in Cognitive Psychology, with a focus on how people understand narratives. He is currently conducting research into how people determine whether a work is fictional or nonfictional, and how their determination affects the way they respond to the text. He has also written about how people understand the rules of storyworlds and comprehend serialized television narratives, as well as how to prepare students to write in the workplace.
At Quinnipiac, his service has focused on pedagogy and advising. Since July of 2016, he has been co-directing Quinnipiac University Writing and Critical Thinking (QUWACT), a multidisciplinary faculty-run organization that supports the use of evidence-based writing practices to improve critical thinking in students. He spent a year as the Interim Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning and continues to serve on its steering committee. He was also a member of CAS Advising Committee for three years.
