Dr. Nathaniel Stafford is an Assistant Professor of Psychology in the Behavioral Neuroscience Program. He earned his Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of New Hampshire. Dr. Stafford's research focuses on individual differences in coping strategies, hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis activity, and serotonin neurobiology using preclinical models. Dr. Stafford's current research investigates the intersection between serotonin activity and ultrasonic vocalizations during stress coping. His work includes publications in journals such as Behavioural Brain Research, Frontiers in Behavioral Neuroscience, Physiology & Behavior, as well as several invited book chapters on posttraumatic stress disorder and ultrasonic vocalizations. In addition to peer-reviewed publications, Dr. Stafford has coauthored a textbook entitled Stressed Out: the Science and Nature of Human Stress, and offers a course in psychology entitled Stressed Out.
