Robert White joined the faculty as a Distinguished Practitioner in Residence in 2017 after serving four years as an adjunct professor. He has taught the basic course in bankruptcy and creditors' rights. He also co-taught Reconstruction and The Civil War Amendments – the 13th, 14th and 15th Amendments- Then and Now. He is currently developing a course on Financial Literacy for Law Students and Young Lawyers.
White previously developed and taught a bankruptcy lab where students practice writing, counseling, and negotiation skills in simulated bankruptcy settings and, with two other instructors, also developed a commercial transactions workshop where students draft a simple contract, review basic commercial documents, and engage in negotiating and writing exercises. Other professors have taken over those courses. He assisted in the development of the Bridge to Practice series, one or two-day programs to assist students in the transition to becoming lawyers: Gateway to Practice (1L); Business and Financial Concepts Boot Camp (2L); and The Business of Law (3L).
White worked at Murtha Cullina LLP (now Harris Beach Murtha) from 1980-2025, having retired as a partner in 2015. He has over 30 years of experience in bankruptcy, commercial litigation, and workouts. He served as chair of the firm's Professional Development Committee and as a loss prevention and ethics counsel for the firm. Before joining Murtha Cullina, White was an assistant district attorney with the Manhattan District Attorney's office.

He served as Chair of the Mass Torts and Environmental Claims Committee of the Business Bankruptcy Section of the American Bar Association and on the Section's Executive Committee. He currently serves on the Executive Committee of the Connecticut Bar Association's Commercial Law and Bankruptcy Section.
In 2018 the Governor appointed White to the 11-member Municipal Accountability Review Board which oversees financially troubled municipalities. He served until 2025. He also volunteered in several capacities with the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving.
