Robert A. White

Distinguished Practitioner in Residence, Commercial Law

Robert White joined the faculty as a Distinguished Practitioner in Residence in 2017 after serving four years as an adjunct professor. He teaches the basic course in bankruptcy and creditors' rights. White developed a bankruptcy lab where students practice writing, counseling, and negotiation skills in simulated bankruptcy settings and, with two other instructors, also developed a commercial transactions workshop where students draft a simple contract, review basic commercial documents, and engage in negotiating and writing exercises. He assisted in the development of the Bridge to Practice series, one or two-day programs to assist students in the transition to becoming a lawyer: Gateway to Practice (1L); Business and Financial Concepts Boot Camp (2L); and The Business of Law (3L).

White is Of Counsel with Murtha Cullina LLP, having retired as a partner in 2015. He has over 30 years of experience in bankruptcy, commercial litigation, and workouts. He served as chair of the firm's Professional Development Committee and as a loss prevention and ethics counsel for the firm. Before joining Murtha Cullina, White was an assistant district attorney with the Manhattan District Attorney’s office.

In 2018 the Governor appointed White to the 11-member Municipal Accountability Review Board that oversees distressed municipalities in Connecticut. He also serves on several committees of the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving.
