Associate Chair of Athletic Training & Sports Medicine

Dr. Susan Norkus is a Professor and serves as the Associate Chair in the Department of Rehabilitation, Health & Wellness. Dr. Norkus teaches in the undergraduate athletic training major and serves as a capstone mentor for the Doctor of Physical Therapy program. Dr. Norkus earned her Ph.D. in Health Science and Biomechanics from the University of Toledo in 2000, her MS from Kansas State University in 1993, and her BS from Springfield College in 1988. Dr. Norkus previously served for 16 years as the Quinnipiac athletic training program’s clinical education coordinator. She strives to incorporate high impact teaching practices into her classroom, as well as find ways to facilitate student learning and engagement in the clinical environment and transition to professional practice. Dr. Norkus is a 2019 recipient of QU's Center for Excellence in Teaching and Service to Students, Excellence in Teaching Award. Dr. Norkus was awarded the National Athletic Trainers' Association’s (NATA) Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer Award in 2019, and the Athletic Trainer Service Award in 2013. She currently serves on the Leadership Cabinet of NATA’s EducATionalist community.
