Valerie M. Smith

Doctor Valerie Smith, who has worked at Quinnipiac since 2001, is the Chair of the Department of English. Her areas of expertise include composition and rhetoric, creative nonfiction, twentieth-century American literature with a specialty in twentieth-century travel narratives, women’s literature, ethnic American literature, and postcolonial literature. Her work is informed by cultural studies, feminist/gender theory, new historicism, and postcolonial theory as well as by her interests in ethnography and philosophy.
